Review from Brazil - Now in English
The album Scare Yourself got 8 stars out of 10 on whiplash.net. Read the review - if you can! Anyone able to translate from Portuguese?
Update: Lokas from Portugal translated the review into English - thanks!
D.A.D is truly a band that doesnt give up. This four piece comes from Denmark and has been fighting since 1985, having released some excellent records such as No Fuel Left for the Pilgrims (88) and Riskin it All (92). But ever since then the band has been changing its sonority, even showing some grunge influences and loosing its main focus, which was its basic and energetic hard rock.
D.A.D still keep the same trio from the original formation Jesper Binzer (voice and guitar), Jacob Binzer (guitar), stig Pederson (bass) and drummer Laust Sonne. Their career has divided opinions due to the irregularity of their records but now the Danes are releasing their ninth studio album, finished in 2005 but only now reaching the European market.
They have finally released a record that has been able to bring back a lot of the energy from the old days. The production has been assumed by the musicians themselves and they have obtained a great result, making it excellent to listen to what D.A.D have always done best: pure rocknroll with easy melodies, some distortion and ear catching choruses, not to mention Jespers grumpy voice which keeps attracting all attentions to himself.
With 12 varied and upbeat songs it is difficult to listen to the classic hard rock of Lawrence of Suburbia and Camping in Scandinavia, with its excellent guitar lines, and not go outside whistling. Worthy of mention is also how easy going the title track is, with Jesper under the effect of some sort of stimulant judging from the way that he is singing the choruses it is a parade of good songs which finishes with the beautiful melodies of the bonus track You Filled My Head.
I confess that I had already lost hope as to listen to a new record from D.A.D which was really thrilling. I am happy to say I was wrong! Scare Yourself is a landmark of two decades with some difficult years and a great comeback to roots. To those who love hard rock and do not know the band, this is an excellent record to become fans.
